An HC-130J Combat King II takes off for Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz. from Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] facilities here today.
Aircraft number 5707 is the third of 15 HC-130Js to be delivered to the U.S. Air Force’s Air Combat Command. The HC-130J replaces the HC-130P/N as the only dedicated fixed-wing personnel recovery platform in the Air Force inventory. Its mission is to rapidly deploy to conduct recovery operations to include airdrop, airland, helicopter air-to-air refueling, and forward area ground refueling missions.

The first MC-130J Commando II that will be converted to a new AC-130J gunship made its first flight here this week. The MC-130J will have a Precision Strike Package installed, then will fly as a gunship in early 2014. The total requirement for new AC-130J gunships is 37.

Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] has completed painting the first of two Tunisian Air Force C-130J-30 Super Hercules. Tunisia currently operates a fleet of C-130Hs and C-130Bs, first purchased in the mid-1980s. The new C-130Js will support Tunisian operations across the mission spectrum, including relief efforts around the world, firefighting and traditional airlift sorties. The first aircraft is due for delivery later this year.

The culmination of the operation is a joint simulated search and rescue exercise – it also involves the divers and the Canadian Rangers – and was largely planned by SAR Tech Warrant Officer (WO) Dan Lamoureux, who’s responsible for coordinating all search and rescue aspects of Operation NUNALIVUT 2012.
