India Interested in C-130J

In a Defense Daily article, Ann Roosevelt reports that the Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress of a proposed Foreign Military Sale with a potential value of more than $1 billion to India of C-130J aircraft, equipment and services. India has requested six Lockheed Martin C-130J Air Force baseline aircraft, including Air Force baseline equipment, spare engines, missile warning systems, advanced radar warning receivers, counter-measures, special operations suites, radios, and communications security equipment. Norway to buy four C-130Js

The Norwegian government announced today that it will buy four C-130J Super Hercules tactical transport aircraft for about $597 million. Norway’s current fleet of six C-130s is nearly 40 years old, and is too old to be reliable, even with costly upgrades and modifications, said Defense Minister Anne-Grete Stroem-Erichsen, “No matter what, they are old, and no matter what, their availability is low.” She said the first new C-130J will be delivered in late 2008, followed by the others in 2009. Lockheed Martin delivers 150th C-130J Super Hercules; California Air National Guard Receives Milestone Aircraft

Marietta, Georgia – Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] has delivered the 150th C-130J Super Hercules built to date. The milestone aircraft is the eighth and final C-130J assigned to the 146th Airlift Wing, the California Air National Guard unit at Channel Islands Air National Guard Base near Oxnard. India Wants C-130Js

A Defense News report on May 3, 2007 states that “India is petitioning to buy the U.S.-built C-130J transport aircraft for its Air Force.” This would be India’s first American military aircraft purchase, they currently use Russian transports. The Indian Air Force is interested in the C-130J because of its ability to land and take off even in short airfields and without lights. It will be used to move India’s special forces at short notice. The purchase will be for six C-130Js. Read more
